Sports Day
Last weekend was my school's annual Sports Day. Japanese sports days have more ceremony than that of English schools, and their events are a lot more fun. Rightly so!... The school certainly deserved some fun after weeks of relentless practice.

At the time I tried to overlook my grandad's comment that the Japanese "were still a bit military about things". Maybe he was right!

And after standing in formation came warming up in formation...

The catepillar race.

Tug of war.

Flower formation. They definately got the nod from flowerboy.

Skipping! This team made it up to about 25. Not bad at all.

This was just one leg of the relay.

The football team.

All the sports teams lined up.

The boys' team-relay.

This event was bizarre but a treat to watch. There are four-person units, with three men at the base and one on top wearing a cap. The aim of the game is to knock the caps off the heads of men at the top of other units.
